How much does tree work cost?

It depends on size, access and what has to happen to the waste. A hedge cut might be £150; a large sectional dismantle over a conservatory runs into four figures. Every quote is free, given in writing after a site visit, and fixed — the number we write down is the number you pay.

Yes. £5m public liability and employers' liability cover. Certificates are sent with every quote, and we supply RAMS for commercial sites as standard.

Only if the tree has a Tree Preservation Order or sits in a conservation area. We check the council record before quoting and handle the application paperwork for you.

What happens to the waste?

It leaves with us. We are registered waste carriers and 100% of green waste is recycled into chip, mulch or firewood. Sites are raked, blown down and swept before we go.

What time of year should trees be pruned?

Most species are best pruned in late autumn or winter while dormant. Cherries and plums are pruned in summer to avoid silver leaf. We will tell you if it is worth waiting.

Not when it is done properly. We never top trees or strip more than around a quarter of the live crown in one season.

How much can you take off?

Usually between one and three metres depending on species and condition. Anything more than around 30% of the crown in one go puts the tree under stress.

Is a reduction the same as topping?

No. Topping is indiscriminate cutting that ruins a tree. A reduction is measured, shaped and cut to natural targets.

Around 2.5m over footpaths and 5.2m over an adopted highway. In gardens it is whatever gives you usable space underneath.

Rarely. Trees shed shaded interior limbs naturally. Widespread dieback in the upper crown is the one to worry about — we will flag it if we see it.

Any time outside the main nesting season, and during it only after a nesting check. Most hedges want one cut in late summer, formal ones two.

Yes. Conifers will not regrow from brown wood, so we will explain the realistic finished height before we start.
